On Queue-Size Scaling for Input-Queued Switches
نویسندگان
چکیده
We study the optimal scaling of the expected total queue size in an n×n input-queued switch, as a function of the number of ports n and the load factor ρ, which has been conjectured to be Θ(n/(1−ρ)) (cf. [15]). In a recent work [16], the validity of this conjecture has been established for the regime where 1 − ρ = O(1/n). In this paper, we make further progress in the direction of this conjecture. We provide a new class of scheduling policies under which the expected total queue size scales as O ( n(1− ρ)−1 log ( 1/(1− ρ) )) when 1− ρ = O(1/n). This is an improvement over the state of the art; for example, for ρ = 1−1/n the best known bound was O(n), while ours is O(n logn).

On uniformly distributed on/off arrivals in virtual output queued switches with geometric service times
Virtual output queueing is commonly deployed as a buffering technique in high-performance input-queued switch architectures. This paper presents analysis for discrete-time virtual output queued switches with incoming traffic governed by a uniformly distributed Markov modulated ON/OFF process, and geometrically distributed service times. We utilize the k-step first-passage time probability matri...
متن کاملA combined low Latency and Weighted Fair Queuing based Scheduling of an input-Queued Switch
Input queuing has become dominant and popular building blocks for high speed crossbar switches with many ports and fast line rates because they require minimum speed-up of memory bandwidth. Input Queued switches with finite Virtual Output Queues guarantees QoS performance in terms of throughput and average delay. A switch performs two functions Queuing and Scheduling. Queue Management algorithm...
متن کاملStochastic Analysis of Stable Marriages in Combined Input Output Queued Switches
Traditionally, Output Queued switch architectures have been proposed to implement Quality of Service schemes such as Weighted Fair Queueing. Output Queued switches with N input and output ports require up to N serial memory operations per time slot (taken to be the time between packet arrivals at an input). Given the high and increasing processor/memory gap, it is important to shift the bottlen...
متن کاملOn the performance of output queued cell switches with non-uniformly distributed bursty arrivals
A novel performance analysis of output queued cell switches that are introduced with general independent heterogeneous traffic is presented. Random arbitration is employed whereby non-empty queues compete equally for service within each switching interval. In particular, the case of bursty two-state Markov-modulated arrivals is studied in which input ports generate bursty streams that are non-u...
متن کاملPractical Scheduling Algorithms for Input - Queued
| The input-queued (IQ) switching architecture is becoming an attractive alternative for high speed switches owing to its scalability. In this paper, two new algorithms, referred to as maximum credit rst (MCF) algorithm and iterative maximum credit rst (IMCF) algorithm, are introduced. Theo-retic analysis shows that the credits of an IQ switch using MCF are bounded for all admissible rate reser...
